Examples of vacuum blocks being used to hold work in place for scraping, routing, and sanding.  The blocks are far more secure than a sanding/routing mat, and you do not have clamps that can interfere, making the work process much safer.  These work excellent for smaller pieces, as you can hold a piece as small as 3-1/4" square for sanding with just one block!
